To mark the bicentenary of Imre Madách's birth and the 140th anniversary of the theatre premiere of The Tragedy of Man, the magazine Országút invited six leading contemporary artists to illustrate a scene from the play.

Eszter Csurka illustrated Heaven, Paradise and Outside Paradise, József Szurcsik depicted the Egyptian and Athens scenes, and Milorad Krstić the scenes of Rome and Constantinople. István Orosz chose the scenes Prague I, Paris and Prague II, József Baksai illustrated the London and Phalanstery scenes, and the last three scenes of the album (Space, Ice World, Outside Paradise) were illustrated by Éva Mayer.

“The series alternates between painting and drawing, taking spectators on a magic ride through a most diverse landscape of painting and drawing styles from expressivity through caricature and surrealism to graffiti, sci-fi, conceptualism and cinematic effects,” wrote art historian János Sturcz about the album.

The artwork of the album “...We drew a poem...” is also on display at the National Theatre, a worthy exhibition venue: Madách's Tragedy was premiered in 1883 at the former National Theatre and was also the opening performance of the current National Theatre in 2002 (set was design by Milorad Krstić).  

The exhibition is opened by Szentmártoni János, Deputy State Secretary for Arts and Community Cultures
