This is the first time art reception has been studied with Noldus FaceReader, the results of this research will be presented during the workshop. The diagnostic software measures the simultaneous expression of the six basic emotions (joy, fear, anger, sadness, surprise, disgust) as a percentage in the default setting, as well as the temporal expression of the most prominent emotion in terms of reaction time. High-quality moving footage allows for a direct study of the impact of systematically manipulated content, i.e. the role of modalities and artistic effects in individual and social settings. At the same time, when complemented by psychophysiological and psychometric measures, digital systems allow for more sensitive data acquisition and more accurate statistical analysis compared to traditional arrangements based on typically self-reported phenomenological interpretation.

This study aims to explore the relationship between empathy, attachment and facial emotions based on data collected through online self-report questionnaires and software analysis of behavioural responses to stimuli - artificially generated sound, human voice and its motion-picture version - captured by camera.
