THE POET OF THE STAGE – Attila Vidnyánszky talks to Silviu Purcărete about the staging of THE TRAGEDY OF MAN

27 september, 4:00 pm – National Theatre, Kaszás Attila Stage

“Silviu Purcărete is a theatre director and a poet, an artist with a dual identity. Two capacities are thus braided in him that influence each other and endow him with a unique status. Purcărete steers clear from the clarity of straightforward roles: he alternates, connects and disrupts available models, and seems to be in constant fear of being immobilised. His theatre conveys the presence of an artist on the world stage, but, at the same time, also that of an interpreter, and this is where his unique position comes from.

This dual position manifests itself in different ways depending on the production in question, but it never excludes the opposite or the different, because it is this interweaving between textual interpretation and the poetic treatment of a scene that truly fascinates him. (...) Purcărete’s theatre mixes and matches genres and adopts the malleability of dreamy visitor amidst the nightmares or wanderings of our times. Hence his uniqueness as a director-poet of the stage!”
